Rural Internet Access

Luckily, many Americans living in rural areas now have a number of options for obtaining broadband Internet, thanks to programs like the USDA’s rural development broadband loan program. The growing number of remote areas now being serviced with wireless broadband internet was traditionally for last mile issues. This last mile link is normally achieved wirelessly because the laying of cable is often prohibitively expensive. Traditional Spread Spectrum solutions to this problem have proved unreliable at times, due to limited bandwidth and inferior propagation and range.

The companies that supply this service are known as Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs). Typically these services require you to have an antenna installed at your home to receive the radio signals that carry your Internet service. The WISP’s signals that you receive will be wirelessly transmitted from a hard-wired access point located at a tower servicing your locale.

KTS Wireless is currently in negotiations with several WISPs to supply the AWR (Agility White-Space Radio) to these potential business partners. Utilizing the AWR’s ability to operate in the White Space Spectrum while using the “Smart Radio Technology,” the system not only becomes self-coordinating with the FCC, but has the intelligence to automatically change the entire network’s channel, in the rare case of interference. The number of channels to be queried is limited only by configuration choices in the management software.

If your customer experiences any interference on one of the fixed white space channels, the system will automatically switch channels to a clear one and see to it that rest of the network follows suit.
